Welcome to Blue Fairy Designs, my name is Helen, and I am a glassaholic.
My obsession with glass began in 2007 whilst on holiday in Devon. We visited The Glass Gallery at Dartington Cider Press Centre, and I was so mesmerised by the beautiful things we saw there that when we got home I went in search of glass fusing courses. I found a day course, and from that six hours, a new career was born! I am mainly self taught, learning a lot of knowledge from the internet. I have also been on two more advanced fusing courses.
In 2010 I branched into a new obsession, making my own lampwork beads. From the fear of turning on the torch for the first time, I now see potential designs and patterns for new beads everywhere I look!
I am lucky enough to have a studio at home, which my husband built for me in our garage. I have five children, so time to work is limited, but my lovely husband and inlaws help in any way they can.
Dichroic glass literally means “two colours”, as the glass reacts differently to light and angle, making the colours shift as you move. This makes it very difficult to photograph, the true beauty of dichroic has to be seen to fully appreciate its depth, iridescence and sparkle.
Lampwork beads are made by melting rods of glass in a carefully controlled flame, and wrapping the molten glass around a mandrel. From this basic bead, beautiful decoration can be added by using different colours, precious metals and enamels. Beads can be made in various shapes, either shaping by hand or by placing the molten glass into a brass bead press.
I handmake all my items in my studio in Hampshire. Each piece is unique and would make a stunning and individual gift. I can also work with you to create a piece to your specifications if you are looking for something extra special. Please feel free to contact me with any special requests, I’d love to hear from you. Alternatively, if you would like a slight variation on an item already in my collection, for example, a different size or colour, please use the “Contact” page to let me know your requirements and I will be in touch to discuss your own personal commission. (Please note I reserve the right to reproduce any item that I make.)

However, we will work together to ensure we come up with a design you are happy with, before it is committed to glass, and you are able to cancel and be refunded right up until a design is agreed upon and work is commenced.
Please remember….. ..although fused glass is very strong, it is still glass and should be treated with due care and respect. Also, as jewellery can contain small parts, it may not be suitable for children.
